Statement by the British Palestinian Committee on UK Sanctions Announcement
On 9 June 2026, Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper announced that the UK, along with several of its allies, would place a set of sanctions on six firms and one individual involved in financing, enabling, and carrying out settler violence against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank. This comes a year after the UK announced it would sanction – strictly in a “personal capacity” – two far-right Israeli cabinet ministers, Bezalel Smotrich and Itamar Ben-Gvir, for their repeated incitements of violence against Palestinian communities. While all these sanctions are necessary, they remain woefully insufficient to address conditions of Israeli occupation, apartheid and genocide. Nor do they address Israel’s de facto annexation and land theft in the West Bank and Gaza.
The British Palestinian Committee is an independent organisation of British Palestinians in leading or representative positions across major Palestine-related organisations and constituencies in the UK.
