Letter to the Prime Minister setting out three concrete steps the government is duty bound to take in relation to the ongoing situation in Gaza.
We wrote to the Prime Minister today following his meeting with President Trump yesterday, and ahead of the recall of the Cabinet today, in order to set out three concrete steps your government is duty bound to take in relation to the ongoing situation in Gaza.
Condemnatory statements, limited sanctions, and symbolic recognitions will not end the genocide and cannot be used to deflect from accountability. The UK has not only a political and moral obligation, but a legal obligation, to:
Prevent and punish Israel’s genocide of the Palestinian people, and end all complicity in it, as duty bound by the Genocide Convention. This includes concrete steps such as ending all forms of military collaboration; urgently reviewing all public contracts to ensure they are not aiding unlawful occupation or genocidal acts; and supporting universal jurisdiction mandates.
Apply immediate and comprehensive sanctions on Israel as a state committing war crimes, in order to pressure it to abide by its international obligations as set out, inter alia, in the ICJ Advisory Opinion on the legal consequences of Israel’s prolonged occupation.
Safeguard the right to freedom of expression and assembly as enshrined in Articles 10 and 11 of the Human Rights Act, in order to protect your own citizens as they campaign against the horrors inflicted upon the people of Palestine.
