Briefing: Housing barriers facing Palestinians in the UK

The British Palestinian Committee has released its latest briefing paper on housing barriers facing Palestinians in the UK. Since October 2023, Palestinians have been able to access the United Kingdom only through limited and fragmented immigration pathways, including asylum, and family reunion. These routes remain insufficient in meeting the scale of need, leaving many families unable to reunite or access safety. Many of these individuals and families have directly experienced extreme conditions, displacement, and loss. Upon arrival, access to safe and stable housing is one of the most immediate and critical needs.

However, Palestinians, particularly new arrivals, face significant and systemic barriers when navigating both local authority housing systems and the private rental market. These challenges frequently result in housing insecurity, prolonged reliance on temporary accommodation, or homelessness. The issue is further compounded by the wider housing crisis in the UK, where demand for affordable housing continues to far exceed supply.
