British Palestinian Committee meets with BBC Director-General, calls for immediate action on failing coverage of Palestine.

In a meeting with the BBC Director-General and senior members of staff earlier this month, representatives of the British Palestinian Committee shared the anger and frustration of British Palestinians and much of the wider British public. In its coverage of Israel’s relentless assault on Gaza over the past 19 months, the BBC has not merely failed in its duties towards accuracy and impartiality: it has effectively legitimised an ongoing genocide.

During the meeting, the Committee raised specific issues and called for immediate improvement in several areas listed in the full statement below.

As a public institution, the BBC’s stated mission is to ‘act in the public interest’ and to ‘use the highest reporting standards to provide coverage that is fair and accurate’. Its leadership must act urgently to ensure the BBC lives up to these declared standards. The British Palestinian Committee will continue to monitor coverage and feed back on progress, and will be seeking regular meetings towards this end.
